A Changling of Heart
Canterlot Castle 3:43 P.M. Friday
At the castle in a certain room, an alicorn laid on a large cushion by a fireplace that had a calm fire lit. Celestia, the alicorn princess of the sun, was relaxing with cup of warm tea and a nice book. She noticed a yellow swirl of magic near and immediately knew it was from Twilight Sparkle. After the swirl of magic formed the expected note, Celestia unfurled it to read it.
Dear Princess Celestia,
You are invited to a special party to be held here in Ponyville at 12:00 P.M., tomorrow. Please inform Luna, Cadence and Shining Armor that they are invited as well. Hope you can make it.
Signed, Twilight Sparkle
Celestia smiled at message and began writing a message of her own to be sent to the Cyrstal Empire.
Dear Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor,
The both of you, Luna and I have been invited by Twilight to a special party to be held at Ponyville, 1200 P.M. tomorrow. Hope you both make it.
Signed, Princess Celestia
As she finished the message and sent it off, she noticed Luna walking by.
"Oh, Lulu." she said, taking the opportunity to tell about the party.
"Yes, Tia." Luna answered her sister with a smile.
"Twilight has invited us to a party at Ponyville for 12:00 P.M., tomorrow." she informed her sister. "It sounds like fun.”
"Yes, it does." she smiled. "I would enjoy attending this celebration."
Celestia smiled as Luna walked out the room and went back to reading her book, thinking about the fun she'll have with her sister at the party.
Ponyville 9:34 P.M. Friday
Back at the Golden Oaks Library, Quillwrite, Chrysalis, Lone Wolf and ArrowsEye had returned a couple hours after spending some time in Ponyville. Quillwrite and Chrysalis had entered the unicorn’s room to rest for tomorrow’s party. While Quillwrite was looking forward to it, Chrysalis was completely nervous about who was to arrive.
“Nervous?” he asked, noticing Chrysalis’ expression.
“Yes.” She said, looking at Quillwrite. “I don’t want anything to happen that would make me leave.”
“Don’t worry, you have plenty of friends to back you up and convince the other princesses that you’ve changed.” Quillwrite said, assuring Chrysalis. “I’m sure they’ll listen.”
“You really think so?” the changling queen asked, a little unsure.
“Of course, the Mane 6, my family and friends have spent time getting to know you.” Quillwrite explained. “They’ll be able to vouch for you because of it.”
Chrysalis smiled and pulled Quillwrite into a gentle hug.
“Thank you.” she said. “I feel like everything is going to go great tomorrow.”
With that, the two laid back onto the bed and cuddled close together with smiles on their faces.
Golden Oak Library 7:15 A.M. Saturday
As the rose, its light shone inside the library and onto a sleeping Quillwrite and Chrysalis, causing them to groan as they woke up. The two headed downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast; while heading down, Chrysalis was thinking about what to say when she would talk to Celestia and the others. Once in the kitchen, both saw Lone Wolf and ArrowsEye were already there, eating pancakes, but saw that Pinkie Pie was there cooking and making pancakes for all of them.
“Pinkie, what’re doing here?” Quillwrite, confused.
“Silly, I’m making you a special breakfast before you have an extra special day.” She answered in her usual bubbly manner.
Deciding that was answer enough, the pair walked to the table where they were served their own plate of pancakes.
“These are delicious, thanks.” Quillwrite said as he took another bite.
“Welcome.” Pinkie said as she cleaned up everything in her fast and mysterious way.
While they were eating, Lone Wolf decided to ask if Chrysalis had thought about to say to Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Shining Armor.
“So, have you thought about what you’re going to say?” Lone Wolf asked.
“Yeah, because Twilight may be on your side, but there are still three more princesses and a prince that need convincing.” ArrowsEye stated.
“I have thought about it and decided to just improvise what I say.” Chrysalis answered.
“Wait, improvise?” Quillwrite asked as he looked at his marefriend.
“Yes, I’ve thought about what to say, but I couldn’t think about how to properly say it.” She said as she looked back. “I’m going just say what comes to mind and from my heart.”
Quillwrite smiled as he moved closer to her.
“I know that what you have to say will be enough to convince them.” Quillwrite said as Chrysalis moved closer to him.
As they finished their breakfast and got their plates and silverware cleaned, dried and put up, they headed outside. But before Quillwrite and Chrysalis could get to the door, Pinkie Pie suddenly stopped them.
“Sorry, but we’re just now setting up the decorations.” She said as she pulled Lone Wolf and ArrowsEye outside. “I’ll come get you two
after we’re done.”
A few minutes after she closed the door, Pinkie poked her head back inside.
“All done.” She said nonchalantly.
Surprised, Quillwrite and Chrysalis walked outside to see that every building expect the castle was decorated with balloons, streamers and banners. City Hall had a big banner that was covered with a tarp.
"That’s for after the princesses and Twilight’s brother show up.” Pinkie explained as she bounced up to them.
“You set this up in just a few minutes?” Quillwrite asked, still slightly surprised.
“You bet.” She said, once again in a nonchalant way.
Quillwrite and Chrysalis just stared with confused looks on their faces, but decided to just enjoy the celebration. They went to where the game booths were and tried to find something to play there. Chrysalis walked, until she heard a sniffling sound, turning her head towards the sound, she saw a little filly by the milk bottle toss booth with a sad look on her face and tears in her eyes. She walked towards the filly and lowered her head to her.
“Are you okay, small one.” Chrysalis asked.
“I tried to win one the prizes, but I can’t throw the balls hard enough to reach the milk bottles.” She said, with a little quiver.
Chrysalis raised her back up just as Quillwrite walked back to her.
“You wouldn’t happen to have a couple of bits.” She asked.
Quillwrite looked at her and then the filly and back at Chrysalis with a smile.
“Of course.” He said as he used his magic to give her a small bag of bits.
Chrysalis took hold with her magic and pulled out two bits and placed them on booth.
“I’d like to try, please.” She said
“Okay.” The stallion said as he took the bits and handed the changling a softball.
Chrysalis took the ball in her hoof and aimed at the milk bottles and waited for the perfect moment. Once she was sure, she tossed the ball as hard as necessary and knocked the bottles down.
“Congratulations, here you go.” The stallion said, handing Chrysalis a stuffed teddy bear.
Chrysalis walked over to the filly and handed the bear to her.
“Here you go.” She said.
The filly gasped with a smile on her face.
“Thank you, Miss Chrysalis.” The said as she hugged the changling’s leg.
“You’re welcome, Miss....” Chrysalis said, wondering about the filly’s name.
“It’s Sunshine, ma’am.” The filly answered as her mother walked towards her daughter.
“Hello, my name is Sunlight Nova and I want to say thank you for the good thing you did for my daughter.” Sunlight said as extended her hoof towards Chrysalis.
Chrysalis took hold the hoof and gently shook the other mare’s hoof.
“A pleasure and it wasn’t any trouble at all.” She said as the mother and child left to enjoy the rest of the celebration.
As the party went on, the sound of a train was heard. A few heads turned to see a train made of crystal stop at the station. Before anything else, a blinding light appeared and dimmed to reveal Celestia and Luna. They were joined by Cadence and Shining Armor, who had exited the train during the appearance of Canterlot’s princesses.
“Shining!” Twilight exclaimed.
“Twily!” Shining Armor exclaimed as well.
The two ran towards each other and hugged. Cadence walked towards the two with a smile as they stopped hugging.
“Cadence.” Twilight said, hugging her sister-in-law.
“Hello, Twilight.” Cadence said, hugging back.
They broke off the hug before doing their usual greeting to each other.
“Sunshine, sunshine, ladybugs awake. Clap your hooves and do a little shake.” They both recited at the same time.
Celestia and Luna gave Twilight a small, but respectful bow with a smile. Twilight returned the gesture before leading them to her friends. As they got closer, Shining noticed a familiar figure. Once close enough, the four saw that it Queen Chrysalis herself in full view with four other ponies with her.
“Chrysalis!” He shouted with a slightly angered tone and look.
The group looked at the source of the voice and saw the looks on the new arrivals to the party.
“Well, this is it, just remember to keep cool.” Lone Wolf said to Chrysalis.
“And don’t forget that we’re here to back you up.” ArrowsEye said.
“And I’ll be right by your side the whole time.” Quillwrite said, taking Chrysalis’ hoof in his own.
“You got this.” Wing Saber stated, with a smile.
Chrysalis smiled at the support, letting go of Quillwrite’s hoof. She stood her ground as the three princesses and prince walked towards her. Quillwrite, Lone Wolf and ArrowsEye stood beside her, with the former standing closer, ready to protect her if need be. They stood still until the other group was right across from them, with Shining Armor taking a couple closer to the changling.
“I don’t know why you’re here, but you have some gall being out in the open like this.” He said, before his wife walked forward to calm him down.
“It is a little concerning that you’re here, Chrysalis, but I wish to hear what brings you here.” Cadence said, before Celestia and Luna walked closer.
Celestia walked closer until she was directly in front of Chrysalis with a slight frown, before smiling, as if knowing something.
“I cannot wait hear the reason why you’re here, about the friends you’ve made and you meeting your special somepony.” She said, making the Chrysalis and Quillwrite blush at the last thing.
They made their way to Twilight’s castle to hear what Chrysalis had to say. Once inside, they headed towards the throne room to have their talk.
“Okay, Chyrsalis, first we need you to explain why you’re here and not with your hive.” Celestia said. “And about the friends you’ve made.”
Chrysalis explained everything about her former hive, all of them starting new lives and making her way to Ponyville, how she met Quillwrite and his friends, Twilight finding out about her, what happened when meeting Quillwrite’s parents and spending time with Tiwlight and each of her friends. Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Shining Armor listened to everything she said. Before any of them could say anything, they heard a laugh coming from behind the door. The door had to reveal Quillwrite’s sister, Cotton Heart, running through towards her brother with a smile.
“Quilly, Quilly!” she said with excitement.
“What is it?” he asked. “Is something wrong?”
“Look, look, look!” She said, showing her flank to show she had a cotton candy cutie mark. “I got my cutie mark!”
“That’s great, how did it happen?” he asked with a smile.
“Well, I went with mom and dad to get some cotton candy and saw that the pony running the booth was having trouble with a group of fillies and colts that wanted some too. I walked over and helped him make and give out cotton candy until all the other fillies and colts had some. Then there was a bright light and I saw that my cutie mark appeared and before I could get some cotton candy, I headed over here as fast as I could to tell you and Chrissy.” She explained.
The four royal guests watched as the filly hugged her brother and then hug Chrysalis as the changling was laughing with Quillwrite and Cotton Heart. This was enough to convince the princesses and prince that Chrysalis had changed. Celestia walked toward the three with a smile.
“Well, I believe we have a party to enjoy.” She said.
The group walked back out and started having fun, playing games and enjoying the food. Pinkie Pie uncovered the banner that now read ‘Happy Changing For The Better Party’. Everypony was having fun and as the day went on to the afternoon, everypony had gathered around a building with a tarp around it. Twilight walked in front of the building and faced the crowd.
“We’ve had fun and gained a new friend.” She said gesturing to Chrysalis. “And now, we’ve have a surprise for you, Lone Wolf.”
Lone Wolf had confused look. The tarp slid off the building to reveal a house that a sign outside that read, ‘Lone Wolf Arts and Photography’, and a section connected to the house that was covered in shutters.
“When Quillwrite wrote the letter to me, he mentioned your talents and the talents of ArrowsEye. It’s because of that the whole town decided to build a new library along with a place where ponies could learn about art and photography.” Twilight explained as she, Lone Wolf, Quillwrite and ArrowsEye took a small tour of the house. “This section is suited for both needs.” She said as she pushed a button on the wall that activated a mechanism that moved the shutters over the windows up and let sun shine through.
“Thank you for this, this is amazing.” Lone Wolf said with a smile.
Twilight smiled and turned to ArrowsEye.
“We’re working on a place for you to stay at, but Quillwrite had said in the letter that you prefer sleeping out in the open, so the construction ponies are working on something that should work for you.” She explained.
“Cool, can’t wait, I guess in the meantime I’ll stay with my friends until then.” ArrowsEye said.
They walked back outside and Twilight approached the other princesses and her brother.
“Well, what do think of what had happened today?” she asked Celestia.
“We talked and are happy to say that Chrysalis has certainly gained plenty of friends and gained a special somepony.” She said, the last part causing a blush to appear on Quillwrite and Chrysalis. “We can safely say that you have definitely changed for the better.”
Everypony cheered at the news they just heard. During the cheering, in an alley nearby, a shadow was shown as a hook was raised and a quiet sinister chuckle was made by the figure.
“Soon, I’ll have my treasure back.” The shadowy figure said before disappearing from the alley.
